It is important that you keep your original policy documents, otherwise it may cost your estate money!

If you have a life assurance policy and have lost the original policy documents, should you make a claim, the life assurance company will require the original policy documents. If you do not have the original policy documents, to protect their company against fraud, the company will charge an indemnity. This is an insurance policy that you will need to pay to insure the life assurance company against fraud. It has to be bought before the policy proceeds can be claimed.

The level of indemnity will vary according to amount of the sum assured and the life assurance company. As an example, the indemnity would be £2,500 on a £250,000 policy. A copy will not suffice. If you cannot find your original policy documents, please contact Aisa immediately for guidance on this matter.
